Every journey needs a starting point, and for RYWCO STUDIO, this is it.
If you had told me a few months ago that I would be writing my first blog post on a self-built website, I might have smiled politely and brushed it off. As a language professional, my tools of the trade have always been words, nuances, and cultural bridges—not code, layout grids, or domain configurations.
Yet, here we are.
The Spark: A Lesson in Digital Sovereignty
The ultimate catalyst for building this website was as sudden as it was sobering. Not long ago, I found myself abruptly blocked on a major Chinese social media platform, Xiaohongshu. My “offense”? Attempting to steer potential clients toward a direct, off-platform conversation.
While frustrating at the time, this incident was precisely the wake-up call I needed. It forced me to confront a fundamental truth of the modern internet: relying solely on third-party algorithms is like building a house on rented land.
RYWCO STUDIO was born out of a desire for digital autonomy. I needed a space that I truly owned—a dedicated hub to consolidate my professional footprint, secure a sustainable livelihood, and showcase my translation and interpreting portfolio without intermediary friction. But beyond personal branding, this project was also a personal gauntlet. What to Expect
Think of this site as a dual-lane highway:
- The Professional: A clean, accessible showcase of my skills, credentials, and certified translation and interpreting work.
- The Personal: A candid ledger of my thoughts, essays, and milestones as an independent freelancer navigating the world at his own pace.
A Work in Progress
Because I harbor a persistent streak of perfectionism, I will be the first to admit that this website is not yet “flawless.” There are still design quirks to smooth out, technical details to polish, and new features I am learning to implement.
But rather than waiting for a hypothetical, perfect product, I chose to hit publish and let RYWCO STUDIO grow in public. Learning is a lifelong curve, and this site will evolve right alongside me.
Thank you for stopping by. There is plenty of content on the horizon, and I invite you to join me for the ride.
